Casting a Wider Net for a Better Catch

As has been the longstanding tradition of Elite Care Canada, our office is pleased to announce that the number of countries our applicants are coming from has never been larger. Some of the exciting new additions to our inventory include Fiji, Slovakia, and Namibia. Why is this so great you ask? It is wonderful because it is to the benefit of all the Canadian families using our services.

When we recruit from a diverse international pool we avoid the pitfalls of mass-recruiting. While other agencies recruit seasonally from a select geographical region and provide applicants with identical and minimal qualifications, our network of international and local partners and recruiters allows us to find caregivers with years of experience as teachers, nurses, and even aupairs. This isn't about finding the next cardboard cut-out - this is about finding someone superb that a family can trust. Just from the three countries listed above we have received childcare specialists, childhood education graduates, and special needs caregivers. We even have a peewee hockey coach with a background in teaching that is looking for a new experience in Canada, now that her children have become independent.

  Changing Requirements

Due to a lack of regulation regarding in the visa process abroad, certain Canadian embassies have been pushed to now request financial statements from the employer in Canada. The first embassies to be requiring such documents are those in China and Thailand.

At the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China, Live-in Caregiver applicants are being asked for proof of their prospective employer's finances. Documents such as the employer's notice of assessment for the past two years, among others, are required at the time the Caregiver attends the interview at the embassy.

The Canadian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, is the latest embassy to begin asking for documentation from the prospective employer in Canada. While the documents they are requesting are not as extensive as those from China they still serve the same purpose. The caregiver applicant is required to submit the documents in order to attend their interview at the embassy.

Due to the current and past levels of Labour Market Opinions being obtained by illegitimate 'employers' the CIC is moving forwards to ensure the employers are real and dedicated to employing the Caregivers from abroad. At this time Beijing and Bangkok are the only countries asking for the additional information from the employers.

This is something our office is keeping a close watch on, as the requirements for immigrating to Canada are continuously changing. Our office is working directly with Elite Care to ensure they are up to date on any additional requirements Caregiver applicants may be required to provide so that they can have it ready to send directly to the Embassy on the employers behalf prior to the interview date therefore expediting the process for the caregiver.

As a firm, we have now had significant experience with these cases and have successfully met these verification requirements with a minimal number of documents, so that it will be easier for any families to go through Elite Care Canada than on their own or through another medium.
Our New Childcare Specialists

Now at Elite Care, we are bringing Childcare Specialists onboard to help our placements and to help inform families. As one of the new Specialists, I worked as a live-in caregiver for a family in Toronto for 2 years. I learned a lot and I believe that to be succesfuls in hiring a live-in nanny, the key is open communication. This is what I am here - to help work with families on.

In the majority of cases, live-in nannies are from different countries. Different background and culture can present a challenge for both families and their nannies. However, open communication helps both employers and employees to better understand their roles and duties. A Specialist can help a family prepare rules for the house and the children for everyone's benefit. The relationship between a family and a nanny can be an excellent example of cooperation, respect, and appreciation for children. Helping a family be prepared early is good to avoid any conflicts in front of the kids. This way your children will listen and respect both their parents and their nanny.

As a new member of the Elite Care staff, I will be going to see families in the comfort of their own homes. Should a family need help finding the right nanny for their child, they need only to let us know and myself or another Specialist will be able to go over their options with them.
